You asked for it, so we made it. Introducing… our new vegan fritter!
We love hearing from our customers’ and over the last year, we’ve received a ton of requests for vegan-friendly fritters. So, what took us so long?
Well, the answer is pretty simple – we wanted it to be PERFECT for you!
We take pride in our delicious fritters and we wanted to be able to deliver/create a vegan fritter that meets the same standards as what we’ve been serving. After a long period of trial and error, we finally created a plant-based recipe that is on par with our original. It’s the same flavour you love, but with slightly different ingredients.
Trying all the different versions was… interesting… We knew it was possible but had to taste-test a few unfritter-like batches before we landed on our final recipe.
We want EVERYONE to be able to share the fritter experience.
Fritters are too tasty to be limited to one type of diet. We want our baked goods to be accessible to everyone, no matter their dietary restrictions. Not only does our new vegan fritter accommodate plant-based diets, but it’s also perfect for our customers who have allergies to ingredients, such as dairy or eggs. There’s nothing worse than sitting there while everyone around you is enjoying delicious food you can’t eat. We understand this struggle and wanted to bring you in on the action!
You’re probably wondering, “how the heck can I get my hands on one, or six, or twelve?”
Our new vegan fritters will come out of the oven and into your mouth at The Western Fair Farmers Market on Saturdays from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. or at our permanent location in St. Thomas (please order in advance at our St. Thomas Location!)
Our vegan fritter is available in our traditional apple flavour – for now. We’re always experimenting with new flavour combinations to please your taste buds, so make sure to follow us on Instagram to stay up-to-date. We look forward to seeing you

Pair them with your favourite hot cocoa on a cold winter day
The cold can be a pain, but isn’t it just the best feeling when you can stay inside and cozy up with a good movie or book, and a warm beverage?

Happy Holidays, Stay Warm, and Fritter On!
If you’re looking to host an event, whether it be social or professional, desserts should never be a question. You see, a good dessert dictates the vibe of the event. Once everyone has gone home, its the last thing on their minds. That’s why nothing completes a dinner party or business luncheon like the perfect fritter.
You may ask, why do fritters make the perfect dessert for events? Let us tell you why…
To start off, fritters come in a variety of flavours to fit everyone’s taste preferences. Fritters can range from fruity, light, rich, savoury or sweet. They also offer a great twist to a holiday treat. For example, if you’re hosting a Halloween party with fritters – you might consider buying apple and pumpkin fritters to fit the occasion.
Another fantastic reason to consider fritters for your events is the fact that there is no mess or clean up. Let’s be real, with everything else that comes with planning an event, a delicious dessert shouldn’t be something to stress about. Fritters are easy to grab and eat. Plus, you can easily set up a beautiful display in only a few minutes.
Affordable, yet delicious
Another bonus, you won’t have to break your piggy bank to get your hands on these scrumptious fritters, compared to buying an expensive cake that will only end up half eaten!
Still not convinced? What if we told you that it will be something people won’t forget. Think about any recent event you’ve been to. Was there cake or fruit for dessert? Probably. Fritters are something that everyone will remember because they will stand out amongst the crowd. How can you go wrong with a deep-fried dessert, filled with goodness, and dusted with sugar?
You can create a stunning display with a range of shapes, and create a personalized, lasting impression on your guests. At the end of the day, it’s a fresh idea that hasn’t been overused!
They pair well with every occasion!
If you’re having a casual get together, this will most likely consist of appetizers, drinks, and desserts. Any fruity flavours in fritters will bring out the bitter flavours of beer and go together easily with any food served. Apple, strawberry, and blueberry are classic flavours to have with every occasion and will be sure to satisfy anyone who attends.
If you’re having a fancier dinner party, don’t cross fritters off your list just yet! In life, there are few things that go better together than chocolate and wine. Nutella or brownie fritters will pair perfectly with a glass (or two) of wine at a dinner party and are guaranteed to have everyone feeling happy.
Are you planning on meeting someone for coffee or a business meeting? This is the sweet spot for fritters. They are the perfect icebreaker for a quick meeting over coffee. They are comforting, easy to munch on and give a personalized touch to your get together. Maple pecan or almond deluxe would match flawlessly with a warm beverage.
The sweet news is that dessert is clearly an important part of any event! We highly recommend that planners and professionals consider fritters as a staple for any event!
If you live in the London or St. Thomas area, you can pre-order half a dozen fritters for $9.95 or a dozen fritters for $19.50, or come see us at any of our locations (The Market in London, Ontario and our Bakery in St. Thomas) to see what seasonal flavours we have!
Can’t wait to see you soon!
What do pumpkin patches, apple orchards and Arva flour mill have in common? They are just a few of the necessary and amazing locally available ingredients needed for a successful and cheery holiday baking season!
The holiday season is here! Which for the bakers among us, means its time to don our aprons, open our cookbooks and make a BIG floury baking scene (a regular occurrence at The Fritter Shop)! But, before you start to whip up a fresh apple pie or your favourite holiday treat, set the stage for success with a holiday baking plan and of course, a few volunteer taste testers!
Here are our top 5 holiday baking season tips to make this year’s kitchen projects as fun and full of holiday cheer as possible.
1. Holiday To-Bake List
Save all your favourite Pinterest recipes, grab your favourite cookbooks, pour yourself a cup of hot apple cider and make a list of all the delicious things you want to bake this year! Narrow down the list by considering time constraints, cost of ingredients, family favourites and skill level required! Check out our blog post, Five Fritter Recipes You Need In Your Life, for some delicious fritter-inspired recipes (including warm fritters paired with dulce de leche ice cream!
2. Make It Look Pretty
Take your holiday desserts and festive table to the next level by using baker’s twine, mason jars, or tags and labels! At The Fritter Shop, we love brown kraft packaging for its natural look and environmentally friendly features!
3. Clean, Clean and Clean Some More!
Who doesn’t LOVE a clean kitchen?! It makes it way easier to find all your ingredients and have the space to make a new mess…and we need a TON of space to roll out our fritter dough! Also, as a part of cleaning, check your ingredients. Toss any expired ingredients or last years holiday baking powder and baking soda, as their rising powers have likely disappeared!
4. Inspire Your Own Mini Chef In Training
Some of our favourite memories come from cooking in the kitchen with the family, especially around the holidays. Inspire the tiny baker in your children by letting them get in on the action. A mini apron and a few cooking utensils will make them feel like it’s the real deal! Let them help measure out ingredients or tell them a story about the baking process!
5. Taste Test (Need We Say More?)
The absolute best part about baking is seeing and tasting the deliciously baked product YOU made! If the baked goods are going to be given as gifts, you may even want to make that first batch for your family, so you can perfect the recipe!
If you find yourself running out of time before your big event or you simply just want to be a taste tester rather than a baker, we have you covered this holiday season! From the classic apple fritter to the pumpkin fritter, The Fritter Shop will make sure your Holiday party is fritter-licious!
Happy Baking, Fritter Fam!

Your school bag is packed, your brand-new outfit is picked out, and your lunch box is in the fridge – you’re ready for your first day back at school…
We’re nostalgic at The Fritter Shop about back to school. Whether you’re in elementary, high school, college, university or even parents sending your kids off to school, this time of year is always highly anticipated.
We always get excited and feel the buzz of back to school excitement. This is especially true since we’re on campus at Western University for their weekly market on Tuesdays and get to see all the excited faces on campus!
The nostalgia sets in as we bake our fritters in the morning and are reminded of school activities, field trips, and dare we say it recess fun!
The classic Apple fritter reminds us of school field trips on the bus to the apple orchard to pick fresh apples. The best part was eating all the fresh apples right off the tree. Plus, this is where we found our favourite apple, the Ida Red, which we use in our fritters today from a local orchard in Blenheim, Ontario!
Our Nutella and Brownie fritters remind us of sharing snacks with friends during lunch time. Can you recall the endless trades that took place with our favourite snacks (or ones mom/dad didn’t pack in our lunch boxes)? Once lunch was over, we were back in our classrooms, meeting new teachers, making new friends and if we were lucky, we left on the first day without homework!
Raise your hand if you could be found in the library with a box of brownie fritters? No judgement!
After school, snacks were the BEST! School sure does make you work up a real appetite. Our Blueberry, Peach and Raspberry fritters remind us of a platter of fresh fruit after a tiring day at school.
It may even remind us of the mix we had in our drinks when we hit Barney’s after class!
After dinner, we would all sit around the table as a family, share desserts and chat about our first day back to school. Can you guess what dessert we had?! If you guessed fritters, you were right! It was the best way to end the first day back to school, with fritters, friends, and family.
What did you or do you love most about back to school?
