Which market do you enjoy?
When you’re in the mood for a home-baked item, something sweet and/or savoury, people often turn to brownies, cupcakes, or cookies to indulge in. For those looking to expand their baking repertoire, fritters are an amazing way to curb those cravings!
Here are five recipes our expert fritter team recommends, to continue your fritter journey (after you stop at the Fritter Shop, of course!)
Italian Frappe Sweet Fritters
An Italian in My Kitchen really brings a taste of Italia to these sweet treats. Fried dough strips are topped with powdered sugar and drizzled with gooey chocolate. It’s simple, yet classic. Yes, you’re definitely more cultured after making these! Check out the recipe here.
Fritters with Dulce de Leche Ice Cream
Jamie Oliver’s recipe pairs hot, delicious fritters with a soft, rich dulce de leche ice cream. So decadent, so sweet, and all from your home! Get the recipe here.
Sweet Zucchini Fritters With Vanilla Ice Cream and Apricots
The beauty of fritters is you can add your own twists! These sweet zucchini fritters are a unique take on a traditionally savoury dish. Paired with a sweet vanilla ice cream and juicy apricots, this dish will be sure to impress your friends. Get the recipe here.
Jamaican Banana Fritters
Enjoy a taste of paradise with these traditional Jamaican banana fritters! Deep frying these bad boys makes them delightfully battery, light, and crunchy. Get the recipe here.
Cheesy Chicken Fritters
We had to include other great fritters! The beauty of fritters is their flexibility! For the family member who insists on a savoury dish, you can delight with these cheesy chicken fritters from Natasha’s Kitchen. Paired with a garlic aioli, it will make even the saltiest of people into fritter fans. Get the recipe here.
Remember Fritter Fam: if you want a box of classic sweet fritters, head on over to The Fritter Shop in St Thomas or at The Market at Western Fair every Saturday 8 am – 3 pm! See you there!
You can also place an order online for pick up right on our site!!
We look forward to seeing you!
How do you prefer your fritters??
Picture this: you’re standing in line at your favourite coffee shop. The sugar craving has hit you like a big truck. You’re itching for a delicious baked good, with fruity flavours. You finally reach the front of the line, but you’re stuck.
Should you get a fritter or a donut?
What seems like a very simple decision (fritter, obvs) is actually complex. They’re both delicious baked goods and the perfect accompaniment to a steaming cup of coffee on a cold Canadian morning. They’re both so, so easy to grab a box of and bring to your coworkers (you’ll be the most popular person in the office!)
But there are some facts which differentiate our favourite baked goods. We’re here to help you make an informed decision. You should totally pick a fritter over a donut, but that’s simply our biased opinion.
Over 10 million donuts are made in the US each year. You don’t want to be one of the crowd. Pick a fritter!
Fritters are versatile. Have you heard of a donut that you can make out of zucchinis? Me neither. Fritters are like chameleons. Pick a fritter.
Donuts are just round. Or square. But always boring. Have you seen donuts that come in beautiful heart shapes? You should totally pick a fritter.
Did you know there are different versions of fritters in different cultures? While in Canada we love our classic sweet fritters, lots of cultures around the world don’t have quite the same sweet tooth. For example, Indian pakoras and Japanese tempura dishes are all forms of fritters! Sweet, right? Pick a fritter!
You can have fritters for all of your meals! The variety of sweet and savoury fritters means you can have one of our sweet fritters for breakfast, corn fritters for lunch, and tempura for dinner! I know I’m sold. Pick a fritter.
The sheer variety and exciting nature of fritters means it’s absolutely the right choice to have with your morning coffee. Stop by our store in St. Thomas or visit us at the Western Fair Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, 8 am – 3 pm for your fritter fix!

Flashback to The 2017 Modern Christmas Market
Hosted by: The Modern Mom Show
Update: We will be attending The Modern Mom Show in June 2018! Get your tickets now!
In 2017, there were a 1000 and 1-holiday markets in London! Night markets, day markets, pop-up markets, last minute markets, Western Fair Farmers Market… markets, markets, markets. We wish we could have gone to ALL of them, but there are only so many hands to make fritters with. We, unfortunately, could not simply call up Christmas elves… although we may have to look into this for this year.
A market we did attend, was The Modern Christmas Market hosted by The Modern Mom Show! Boy, there were a lot of moms… and we can’t forget the dads! We have to say, all you moms and dads looked amazing. With a little one running around (or two, or three) we were so impressed by your style and ease at the show.
We also have to tip our baker hats off to the overall atmosphere and branding of the show. This will certainly NOT be forgotten! No matter where you looked, every single piece was on brand.
All our customers were AMAZING! This is one of the main reasons we love to attend events in London because YOU’RE the best customers ever!
Who would have thought little ones would enjoy our fritters so much?? (this is us trying to be humble… )
We can’t help but mention one of our favourite features around our booth was the sitting area directly to the left of us! Wow! Talk about perfect styling! Even with the pinks and the creams it still screamed Christmas!
Friday Night Overview
The Doubletree by Hilton was bumping! We know the other booths felt it too! We got slammed on Friday! Everyone wanted a snack and some of the amazing apple cider beside us!
Saturday was the longer of the two days, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. This gave us plenty of time to check out all the amazing vendors and their products.
We have to give a VERY special Thank you to Lunah Life who got us out of a jam on Saturday, by lending us a square.
Needless to say, we will happily attend again next year!
Are you a mom or dad? You have to check out The Modern Christmas Market Vendors list. It’s a great overview of Canadian businesses who have adorable children’s attire! Also, there may be a few vendors on the list for mom and dad!
Did you attend? Will we see you for the next Modern Mom Show?
